Some time ago, on a flight from Málaga to Paris, I was sitting by the window. I took out a book and started reading to avoid getting bored during the two-and-a-half-hour flight.
Suddenly, the girl next to me who was listening to music takes off her headphones and says:
-Interesting… You’re Spanish, right?
-Yes, I am Spanish. And what is interesting?
-The title of the book you’re reading.
She was French. It could be heard from her accent.
-Are you going to Paris on vacation?
-No. I am a tour guide in Paris.

-Tu sais… sorry… Do you know? I actually like Málaga much more… j’adoree…
-It’s a very special city, but Paris… it’s a city with lots of monuments and many people visit it.
-Yes… but I like Málaga more. She insisted.
I looked at her surprised and she added:
-I like it more than Paris because Málaga doesn’t need to have its neighborhoods full of monuments for people to come.
I had never heard someone from outside Málaga say something like that. The usual things people say are:
- Kilometers and kilometers of sunny and salty horizon.
- A city with a thousand years of history that has seen five civilizations. -Streets that speak all languages.
- The conversation continued until the end of the flight. I learned that her name was Chloé and she was from Paris, studying at the famous Sorbonne.
To this day, we are friends and, thanks to her, we are also guides (the ones with official accreditation) in Málaga.
Chloé (the Parisian) always says that people want experiences, to live experiences… more than just talking about monuments, schedules, official guides… they want to talk about the day they will never forget…

Hello! My name is Julio and I am an official tour guide certified by the Junta de Andalucía. After completing my university studies, I was offered the opportunity to show the main monuments of the city to small groups of foreigners and students visiting Málaga, along with some colleagues from university.
After several years of training in this profession, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and travel to different places around the world, living in England, Australia, and Italy before returning to my roots in 2018. The knowledge and experience I gained allowed me to appreciate the values, culture, and way of life that characterize Malaga and its province like never before.
